Nikon Z6 II – Z7 II and New Canon M50 Mark II

This week I found interesting (and entertaining) a video by the flamboyant Jared Polin talking about the latest news from Nikon, and Canon. In this video, the “Fro” gives you a rundown of the new releases from the two Japanese camera brands and more.

Here’s a summary of the video. You can click on the thumbnail at the beginning of this page to watch the whole video from the beginning if you want.

New iPhone 12

Apple released the new iPhone 12. Best smartphone for photography ever?

The good news for Polin here is the announcement of the Apple ProRAW format. Soon (yep, it’s a coming soon feature…) you’ll be able to natively shoot in RAW from your iPhone without using third-party apps. Finally Apple!

Canon M50 Mark II

Canon released the M50 Mark II. The new Canon is an improvement of one of the best cameras for Vlogging the M50. Some of the improvements are:

  • Improved AF.
  • Support for recording vertical videos to share on social media.
  • Webcam capabilities for streaming or videoconferencing with a high quality video.
  • Price $599

Worth buying? In my opinion the first version of the M50 is the best camera for beginners wanting to buy their first mirrorless and vloggers. The only question is, will Canon ditch the M mount?

Canon PowerShot ZOOM

A monocular camera to use for… well I’m not sure what’s the use of it and Polin doesn’t seem to be impressed either. Nice gadget to have? Let me know what you think in the comments.

Nikon Z6 II and Nikon Z7 II

Nikon releases the mirrorless Nikon Z6 II and Nikon Z7 II. Minor upgrades of the Z6 and Z7.

Nikon Z6 II

The second-generation Nikon Z6 II it’s an all-round mirrorless with the following specs:

  • 24 MP sensor
  • 273 focus points
  • 14 FPS continuous shooting speed
  • Base ISO 100
  • 5-axis in-body stabilization
  • New Image Processor Dual EXPEED 6
  • Video 4k 60p
  • Price $1,999.00 available in December 2020

Nikon Z7 II

  • 45.7 MP sensor
  • 493 focus points
  • 10 FPS continuous shooting speed
  • Base ISO 64
  • 5-axis in-body stabilization
  • New Image Processor Dual EXPEED 6
  • Video 4k 60p
  • Price $2,999.00 available in December 2020

Is Polin impressed by these two new Nikon cameras? Not even a bit. Well, neither am I. In my opinion, probably the only two good things about these two cameras are the new image processor and the two card slots. All features that should have probably be present in the first iteration.

But if you want to go ahead and think they are what you need, you can support this blog by pre-order them on Amazon using these links:

Final Words

And this concludes my comment on Polin’s video on Canon and Nikon’s new cameras.
